Background of Easter

Easter is one of those festivals that trace their origin to long before men learned to worship idols. It was a time when man was very close to nature. The early pagans used to worship the goddess Estore, the Saxon deity of fertility. They prayed for a good harvest and a happy content existence.

Later the Christians started observing the day as Christ’s resurrection. He was crucified by the Romans on a Good Friday and on the next Sunday his body vanished from the tomb as described by ancient historians. Disciples started to believe that Christ took  re-birth started living amongst the common man. This is the myth behind the Easter celebration.

Later both the themes of pagan and Christians are joined and people observe the day by sharing gifts and feasting with friends and families. Easter is a celebration for all. Though, eastern churches or the orthodoxies observe the day for two weeks while the western churches or the Gregorian believed to celebrate only one Sunday for Easter.

Today, people celebrate Easter by merry making with near and dear ones. They eat and drink in the name of Jesus and their good luck. They also share gifts and cards to others. Friends and families plan for dinner celebrations on this auspicious day.
